We are Madalitso (designer and tailor) and Salome (logistics and marketing). We live in a little village called Chipoka, on the Lake Shore in Malawi.
Malawi is the sixth poorest country in the world. Most people live by subsistence farming and trading products but inflation has rocketed and food is very expensive so day to day life is pretty tough.
Regular women in our 20's, both mothers and friends, we are however still ambitious for ourselves, our children and our families. As a social enterprise not-for-profit endeavour we are excited to share our business idea with you. We really hope you love and buy our skirts, with their own cute little bags, for yourself or as a gift.
In Malawi we don’t believe in fast fashion. We believe in slow, soulful clothing. We ethically source our pure cotton textiles, manufactured directly in Malawi and tailor them personally, bringing you our vibrant, structured midi skirts.
Inspired by the Malawian Chitenje wrap, everyday wear for women in Malawi our skirts represent motherhood and womanhood. Malawian mothers hand their Chitenjes down to their children when they become mothers. We have re-purposed them for the European and UK market so they can be worn by everyone, mother or not.
Every time you wear or gift one of our skirts, you aren't just wearing a beautiful print. you are wearing a direct piece of Malawian heritage as well as changing the lives of some very real Malawian women and families every day.
